Hey guys, just wanted to post up some pics of my current motor/trans project, a small block 400 bored over, AFR 190 heads, comp XE284h cam, crane gold rockers, etc.
I'm also doing my own t-56 rebuild w/ bronze shift pads, steel 3-4 fork, billet keys and new synchros

Lots of negative rake without a motor lol

joey, i also bielt a 406 sbc for my 83 cutlass look in my profile. i had a set of peat jackson gears in it. started it for the frist tine uncap headers. my shop is about 50 ft from the house my wife came running out aksing about that awful noise was. to loud i change then to a double chaine. now its cap ands sounds great but is shacks tha pips of the walls and diches out of the cabines. now i just got to deal with her but she can wait to drive the car, its for the street i love it woodie

Sweet, I just built a similar one. I did use a pete jackson, my memory says it could be a pete which isn't saying much. Looks good and I wish I took as many picks.

That should be a strong running combo. The pan looks pretty deep. Is it going to clear the crossmember?

Actually its a stock pan, got it for ten bucks. You guys with the 400s, how fast is that motor? Im hoping for maayybe 500 at crank, thats optimistic obviously, but i've heard those heads are great so we'll see.

Re: Project BigSmallBlock: 406 build

The one I built for my El Camino pulls like a freight train. It was built for towing with low end torque in mind rather than high RPM horsepower. It's really nothing fancy.
-.060 over 4-bolt block (I know that .030-.040 is recommended max)
-stock #882 heads
-XE256h cam with matched valve springs
-Performer intake, 800CFM Q-jet, HEI, cheap Summit headers.
According to my Dyno2000 it peaks at 270hp @4000 and 440tq @2000. It maintains over 400tq until just under 4000rpm. I tried to be as realistic with my data input as possible. It will never see an actual dyno but I can tell you that it will lug down to 800rpm in high gear(manual trans) and pull right back up without pinging. The torque down low is almost diesel-like. Kinda apples and oranges compared to yours though. I think 500hp is a bit optimistic but you may be in that neighborhood for torque.

Woodie I'm sorry but i just can't understand some of your story dere.. Gear drive was too loud for ya?

Driven- I know they're usually known for being torque monsters, but im hoping to rev this one too. with these heads and cam, and a single plane intake on the way

Re: Project BigSmallBlock: 406 build

Heres the T-56 tear down

I tore it apart mainly because 5th gear didnt want to engage at all. Once apart, found out the plastic 5-6 fork pads broke, thus allowing the steel fork to wear down as well!

Second gear also popped out on occasion, usually on a downshift
