Well, after exactly one year of starting building, I had my first sucessful run of my first vehicle ive ever built. I drove it about a mile, and really didnt get a chance to open it wide up, but was able to put around for a while and pull it in to the garage with no smoke pouring out the engine bay.

For those of you who were following, I ended up getting a transmission rebuilt by a freind of my grandpa's (the best transmission builder in the area) for 450 bucks with a torque converter, and installed it today.

Ive still got a lot more to do before I can do any real driving with it unfortunatly though.

1. Ive got a hellova oil leak out the intake ive gotta fix
2. I ordered a autometer speedometer today, and im going to make a custom guage panel to fit my cluster.
3. I need to replace some steering components
4. I need an alignment to the wheels so I dont wear out my brand new tires

Oh, and I came up with a name and theme for the cutlass. I call it (ironically) "White Smoke" because there is a lot of blow-by in under the hood, and some white smoke coming out the exhaust. Also the name comes from the Billit specailties chromed alluminum flame steeringwheel the previous owner installed. I will be following the flamed theme and adding "white smoke" to the front windsheild as soon as I get the above listed issues work out lol.

So how am I doing for not even having reached 17 years old yet and self funding and building the car! 😛
questions? comments? snyde remmarks? Pictures will come next week once I get time to wash it up and put the interior back together.

Not bad at all! 😀

I was your age when my best friend and I took our first stab at removing the engine and trans from his '62 Cadillac hearse, having it rebuilt, and then figuring out how to put it back together and make it function again.

It's a great learning experience, isn't it?

Learn as much as you can, and then just try not to forget it!

Congrats Malibu!!

Not too shabby at all. Like Blake said, its a real learning experience, try not to forget anything!

So, any pics of that hearse? I would like to build one someday.

This is the only pic I have that's on the computer, that's it in the background. This pic is from fall of '01, shortly after we got the motor back in it, and in the spring of '03, I painted it with black epoxy primer out at school. I'll have to scan the other photos I have of it.

It's a 1962 Cadillac Superior 3-way, meaning the casket table can come out the rear or either side. That fine looking El Camino was my ride through my junior and senior years in high school. From that angle, you can kind of see the tin signs that patched the fronts of the wheelwells...

I will always like those big old hearses. I have this idea of building one, then when I die, have that one drive me to the grave. That one is nice, and the Elky isn't bad, at least what I can see from the pic.

haha, write "drive me to my grave" on the windsheild lmao

Theres a hearse that runs around my town. 80's buick something, big block with a blower sticking out of the hood. on the back it says "sooner or later, everybody rides in the back"
