Projects from THE COMPOUND

Got my trailer...finally.

It's perfectly useable as it sits but could certainly use some work. It'll sure come in handy for the move though. Maybe I'll make it a project once I get everything moved and settled.

as if you didn't have enough projects going on already??? 😀

Exactly. Trying to work a deal on a 425 Olds 3 hours north and a TW200 2 hours south of me all while trying to liquidate and pack for a move. I'm an idiot. Swap meet next month might help save me from myself. Of course, it might just make it worse.

On a positive note, we dug some test holes at the new place and it looks like they'll probably start pushing dirt to make way for the new driveway and start concrete work in about 4-6 weeks.

Brought this home last night.

I've been looking for one for about 6 months now and every time one pops up for a reasonable price it's either gone before I get to it or I'm just not liquid enough. This came along and the planets aligned. I was really hoping I'd be able to pick one up before the move because the Portland market is a lot more abundant than the Boise market. Ironically though, Idaho seems to be a Mecca for TW riders. Can't wait to put this thing in the dirt.

Pulled the engine in project Zero. Primarily because there was an oil leak and I wanted to detail it a bit but also because I was hoping to locate the ticking noise that it's always had. Similar sound to an out of adjustment valve but lower in the engine. I cracked the front side open and laced orders for gaskets, seals and cark kits. Once all my seals and gaskets showed up so I broke down the rear half of the engine. I'm pretty sure I've located the source of my ticking noise.

The earlier versions of this engine had a mechanical cam chain tensioner that required periodic adjustment. This one has an auto tensioner which is basically just a spring loaded ball that acts against a wedged ram. There is no oil pressure involved. What appears to have happened was that a small roll pin that is intended to keep the assembly from springing apart during assembly or removal had sheared off and seized up the ram not allowing it to fully extend. That left about 3/16" of slack and every time the cam would pass a lobe it would lose tension and the guide would slap. Pretty easy fix once located. I guess I'll find out if that was it once it's all together and running.

Portland swap meet last weekend. Hauled out my Goldwing and the Shotrod Sedan project hoping to liquidate. They got lots of attention but no buyers. I should have charged admission.
The weather was absolutely horrible and people weren't in much of a buying mood. I guess I'll put them on CL and see if I have better luck.

It's really busy here as The Compound era winds down. Packing up the house and clearing out the shops. Getting bids for a roof and painting. Sure is a lot easier to buy a house than sell one. Taking the first Uhaul load over on Wednesday.

Since Cycleracks is based just a few miles away, in Kuna, I picked one up for the TW. Have an adventure planned for late May.

Sold this earlier today. It's destined for a '57 Ford SWB.

Finally got this back together.

Fired right up. Charging good. No more ticking. No oil leaks. No coolant leaks at first then the mechanical seal (water pump seal) started to leak. These are known to do that sometimes until they wear in. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
I forgot just how sexy this sounds with the dual Sportster pipes. Runs strong too.
I replaced the broken mirror and have the replacement front turn signal also. Grabbed another can of Plastidip to redo the paint too.

Sold the old Goldwing last week.
Sold the Shot Rod Sedan on Sunday. The buyer has a body shop and says it's getting a tunnel rammed big block Chevy.

Needed a break from all the house stuff so I took a little ride last night. Ran up over Bald Peak then down into Laurelwood. Snapped one single photo in front of the, now abandoned, admin building where my parents went to high school. It could not have been a more perfect day to ride. Glad I took a break.

This will be next on the chopping block but trying to hold off for a final ride with Marc through the coast range via logging roads.

Anyway, The Compound era is winding to a close. Stay tuned for a new chapter in a new thread.
