I imagine Bill is doing less Olds all the time. With the new Rocket Racing block, probably just not necessary for girdles for anyone building anything serious. I would say your 403 with any cam will be 325hp and 400 ft/lbs. Is that second number torque? They put out 320 ft/lbs bone stock. That is a peanut cam, 7.8 to 1 if lucky and awful exhaust.

Yep the factory cam was just like a truck 454 peanut port heads cam

Just got off the phone with J&S again going with his 5 main halo he said the complete girdle at my power level is a total waste of money.

I'll be sending him my caps to be machined tomorrow......hopefully

Is the main cap walk that bad?

If you seen how Olds made this block you would run away from it faster than your Hellcat can go!!

The only thing holding the mains to the block is a 2 inch wide by 1 inch thick Y

They are flimsy, can't argue the pics. Dr Dan was running stock bottom end in the high 12's and Prop Joe as well. I never thought a 4" crank would ever come out or I would have spent the money and used a much better 350 block.

I hope it works out. Seems to me that the guy machining the block should make everything fit together. Just get the halo, fit it all nice and flat, then align bore.

Told you he had a stash....😉

Good picture. Did Olds do that just because of the bore size?

Nope, although those big pistons would contact the main webbing, throwing out the never seen 2500 supposedly made. The 260, 307 and 350 gas blocks, diesel were much thicker. From 1977 and up, all gas blocks were light weight castings with Pontiac made heads. It was all due to fuel savings. Pontiac 400 blocks from 77 to 79 also have thinner main webs, Olds took the cake in flimsy though.
