Quadrajet Choke not open all the way at Operating Temp

Once I check the voltage coming to the factory choke wire, if there is 12 volts, it's good. If not, trace the wire and figure it out. If it has 12 volts, what else could be the problem as to why the choke is not opening fully? It has no tension on it, I can almost blow on it and it will flop open, but it comes back to rest at a 45 degree angle. It works fine on cold starts, but will not open up fully.

Did all factory g body cars equipped with electric chokes (All of the carbed cars?) also have that little green wire that connects to the choke hooked to an oil pressure switch? My V6 had one on the bellhousing at the rear of the motor, and my 350 don't have one at all. Could that be my problem?

if the choke moves that easy the spring or coil may have broke/cracked

the test light will light even if it is less than 12 volts thats why a volt meter is better.

You should have 12.25 volts at the choke

I have seen burnt out or bad coils in both electric and hot air. The Olds V8 was hot air to the bitter end. Try adjusting it if you have voltage there but the electric will come off even under heavy tension.

I get 12.3 volts at the green choke wire with the key in the ON position. It goes down to three volts when plugged in. How exactly is the choke supposed to be set up with the black coil thing? Should the flap be closed, then I set the coil in the housing with the tang on the lever then line up the index mark, or should the flap be open, and I line up the index mark? No matter what I do the choke won't open past 1/8 inch. I think I need to tap into that brown wire on the alternator or the wiper motor to get a full 12 volts. The linkage isn't binding, the coil isn't bad. The high idle even works.

Your element can be bad if it isn't moving the full length required from cold to warm.
I would set it at full warm to the full open position.

element isn't bad. 12.3 volts at teh choke wire. Choke still refuses to open up past halfway. Element is adjusted to the middle mark. There is very little tension on the choke. What the hell's going on?
