Steve, open meaning no continuity, or no resistance?

I rechecked it this morning and it have resistance and continuity so I don't know what I did last nite checking it. Last nite I just checked it for resistance and it had none. But I did find the short. There are scratches on the plate from the coil.

:!: Now there's something I've never seen before. That's why I said it's rare to short to ground, and that explains it. I wonder if it hung up on the lever that it engages in the housing?

it must of hung up on the hanger and it wasn't a heavy contact so that's why it took a while for the fuse to blow. The one I replaced it with did not have a full metal covering like this one so maybe they had problem with this style and changed it.

I'm thinking that I caused that problem by not having the key in the opening and it was sitting on top of the coil. I had the choke off when putting this carb back on early in the summer and when I put the coil back on I adjusted it so the choke would never come on in the summer. I left it to be adjusted when the temperature turned cool so I would have never noticed if the fuse blew in the summer and it was only after I adjusted the choke to come on that I realised the fuse had blown and then the second one blew after a few days. This is the same coil I have used for about 4 years so it must have been my mistake since I can't find anything with this coil and the "new" coil is working perfectly so it's not the key that is the problem.... 😳
