[Caprice is most likely has a 700R4 instead of a 2004R.....

How would I be able to find out which trans it has without putting the car on a lift? Will the VIN tell me?
Thanks!

If the Caprice has a 307 olds motor, the trans is a 2004r. 700r4 were never put behind the olds motor from the factory. Gregg

If the VIN has a "Y" in the fifth position (designating the 307 Olds) then the trans is definitely a 200-4R.

Eighth digit is a Y. He wants $150 for it. I'll get it this weekend....THANKS!

this is also assuming that the car hasn't bee fooled with either, i would never solely trust the vin before i jump to conclusions, i would match the pan to the diagram to check for sure

Right, sorry. I was thinking of the older 13 character VINs.

Good advice!....Car looks pretty stock and unmolested. He wants 350 for the motor and trans, but I dont really need another motor laying around in my garage...lol

Ok...so am I correct in my assumption that the 4pin connector from a 200 metric will fit on the 2004r? And, as long as the ecm has power, shouldnt the lock-up work even if the ccc is not there anymore? I know...I know...I promised not to ask anymore dumb ??s about this....but ... I lied...lol

Bill

as far as i know you would have to replace the entire computer for that, the 3.8 computer would not work for that. the much simpler solution is to get a standalone lockup kit for the 200-4r
