Have you or have you thought about cutting a hole underneath to make the hood scoop functional?
I'm thinking about doing this but just wanted to hear opinions on any reasons not to do it.

I know there are 2 reasons to do it. One is that it relieves air pressure from under the car for better high speed handling and the other is to reduce underhood temperatures. I don't care about the former because I don't intend to drive my car fast enough for that to matter but I am interested in lower underhood temperatures. An automotive A/C expert I know told me to do it for better function of the A/C system. I also have headers and they increase underhood temperatures.

My El Camino is an original Choo Choo SS but I'm not concerned with keeping it totally original. I've already made a lot of changes to it's originality.

The way the scoop is designed how would you make it functional?

From what I remember you would have to cut out the rear support/bracing.

I have an original and 2 fakes in my garage.

This is my old Malibu with the real Choo Choo

No structure has to be cut. Just the triangle area within the structure.
This is from Lauren Engineering:

My "scoop" is already open in the back. So, the underhood hot air has a path to escape.
Scoop is probably not the right word since the opening is not at the front.
It just seems like that's what you hear these called.

Why not ditch it and go with a 2" cowl hood? That way you don't have an ugly hood and your hood can be fully functional and look a lot better?

Because if it is a real Choo Choo Customs Camino you don't do silly things like that.

Yea but he said he doesn't care about originality that's why I wondered.

I do like some of the aftermarket cowl induction hoods but this is one area where I do want to retain the original Choo Choo look.
I never thought of it as ugly. I've always liked the way it looked. I thought it was a little silly that it wasn't functional though.
Just want to be sure about cutting the hole since I can't ever go back.

I don't care about value or what the next owner of the car might think. I'm 62, owned the car for 25 years and likely will keep it for life.
