Are 416 cast heads with 1.94 intake valves too big for a 305? Will they run unshrouded or too low compression?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've scoured the 'net and getting conflicting answers. I may have made a booboo buying these...

johnnie79,
I'm assuming the entire casting number is 14014416. If so, then according to my Chevrolet Small Block parts interchange manual, this "416" head was used during the model years 80-86, for engine size 305, had 1.84"/ 1.5" valves, and with 58cc chambers.
So, i'd guess these would work on your 305.

You are correct, but people often enlarge the intake valve to 1.94 (like the ones I'm looking at). Just not sure if that only kosher if put on 350+'s....

johnnie79,

I do know the after market (I think the 305 Torquer was one) made heads with 1.94" intakes. I'm not sure, but I believe the after market heads had the same valve center lines as stock. If so, the heads you have will work.
Hope someone will let you know for sure about this!
