quick question OLDS 5A heads

That is if you are lucky, might be more like 7.5 to 1. Procomp heads not only need milled but also need screw in studs, guide plates and roller tip rocker arms at minimum. I wish they would cast two chamber sizes. They flow about 240/180 and have a better spark plug position. The exhaust port is smaller, raising the floor eliminated a dead spot and increased flow.

Why would it be 7.5 :1?

If they didn't 0 deck the block or do a decent cut to deck, the cheap cast pistons could be .040" in the hole. My 4A heads were 86cc, if a clean up mill was done figure the heads will be the stock 83cc figure. You won't know till you pull a head or have the machinists list in front of you. The actual factory compression ratio was less than 8 to 1. I use the KB pistons calculator. The factory piston dish is 21cc.

With factory pistons in the hole .020" usually and a Felpro head gasket put the compression with 83cc heads at 7.9 to 1.

Don't throw it in the East River; I'll come take a off your hands.

Don't give up hope, mine was a huge improvement over the 307 even with 8 to 1 and the 204/214 cam.

Well it isnt going in until I get a set of heads.

Like I said before I just cant justify 8:1 compression (IF THAT now) on an NA engine.

Cruiser or not
