But for real T just finde some 5s or 6s drill them port them deck them and bolt them. Get that thing Rollin 💪
He did with those 69 5a heads and then like all Olds heads threads went South quickly.

Stock 403 advertised compression is 8:1. I have seen it advertised at 7.9:1. Either way, it sucks. Use the 350 heads with a stock rebuild ( and new springs to match the cam you end up choosing ), and get the holes drilled. It will raise your compression a full point, and even more if you want/need to deck the block, deck the heads, and/or use a thin head gasket.
I'm shooting for 9.5:1 on my build, which hopefully will gain me about 25 HP, with just that modification alone. Add the cam, intake, dual exhaust, properly tuned carb, and distributor, and I'm "hoping" for 300 HP, and 400 FT LBS.

Hmmmm. The 5 and the A look like the same size to me. Maybe the shadowing makes it look bigger, but I'm not seeing it. I'm wondering what the "A" designator would mean. i.e. was it supposed to be used for irrigation engine, or was it designated for something, or just an "extra" run of 5 heads and needed a new mold, or manufactured elsewhere...I dunno. It doesn't really matter. The 5A seems to be functionally the exact same as a 5 head. Just wondering out loud.

Nice to discuss and all, but all this doesn't cure cancer, so in the end, you pick up and use the heads, or you do not.
Looks like I'm the one that needs the glasses 🤣

Getting old just suxs

Doesnt matter almost anything is better than a 4A
