i hate this hose. how do you get the clip out? i got the back lines loose but i cant do anything with the line coming off the frame rail until i get the clip out on that end of the hose. so how do i get this thing out in my driveway? i tried a screwdriver but the clip end only bent a little and the clip itself didnt budge at all. i hit the area on the frame where the hose is hoping that would knock things loose a little, no luck. so next to using a torch, how do i get this thing out? i would hate to spend 70 plus bucks to have this done at a shop because of a stupid clip.

i tried needle nose pliers but they didnt work. i dont have a small pair of vise grips either. i bought flare nut wrenches so i could do this and now i guess i need to buy a pair of small vise grips too. this hose is getting to be more and more bothersome.

...if all else fails, get a bigger hammer...

it's welded with rust....soak it with penetrating oil and gently apply heat if it doesn't come free. Brake fluid is highly flammable and I have seen flex lines explode when heated

Ditto on that, be very careful if you use any sort heat there, I found out the hard way, when doing a rear hose, scared the piss out me, .

it doesnt seem rusty. the part of the frame it runs through had a greasy film on it.

and since the line going to the back brakes basically has no fluid i'm not too worried about fluid catching fire but there are fuel lines not far from there so heat is probably gonna be a no no.

i'll just keep trying. my biggest problem is the thing is cockeyed in there like it's been turned after it was put in so it makes getting it out that much harder. i have an idea on how to turn it but i dont know if it'll work. we'll see. hopefully this will be the one and ONLY time i have to replace this thing. it's almost as annoying as replacing wheel cylinders, ALMOST. if i have to replace them for a 3rd time i'm switching to rear disc. i dont think i can bear to change them out again.

see if you can use a small sharp screwdriver or chisel to gently tap with a hammer to spread the fingers of the retainer clip

Ditto what pontiacgp said. Aim a screwdriver at the head and whack it with a hammer. Now just wait until you need to put it back- the hex head must be seated in the hole in the frame just right or you'll never get it back on.

i could barely get my hands and a single tool in that spot, i doubt i'm gonna get a hammer in there to knock anything loose. unless it's the beat on that part of the frame.

i have some time to fiddle with this so i'll try some different stuff and see what happens. i'm thinking if i crack loose the hard line and then turn the hose i can get the clip in a better position to remove it. if it was in a better position this probably wouldnt be an issue and i'd have rear brakes right now. :x oh well, whats life without it's challenges?
