I've been looking into the baer system... then thought to myself, why pay that much for rear brakes when most of the braking power is from the front anyway? But either way, I hate drum brakes... They would look like crap when I put the rims I want on my car anyway.
So, I was looking into a LS1 swap... and found this:

Would this work with a 1984 cutlass calais? I was at the salvage yard today looking for a t-top replacement and saw a few LS1's. I would be really tempted to go back and get the parts within the next month or so if it'll work. Why didn't GM just make the rear disc brakes to begin with...

Just to let you know, I am pretty sure that most if not all rear disc brake kits will not clear stock wheels. I think you need 16" or bigger.

Check out this site,

Ok, so I guess I'd have to wait for a little while to do the conversion. I'm going to put a lift kit on my car, but was planning on putting on better brakes first. Guess they'll both have to happen at the same time. Thanks
I'd rather build my own other than those on that website. Its cheaper.

PST had a rear disc kit that required you have at least 15" wheels and stock ride height. here it is. http://www.p-s-t.com/pc-163-13-grand-na ... 82-88.aspx

even a modest rear disc kit will provide more clamping force than drums period. and if i go with a rear disc set up i'm going with the b-body spindle 1LE 12 inch brake up grade for the front for sure to equal out the clamping force. an adjustable proportioning valve would help but... i hate the idea someone could play with it.
