Guys, I have the dreadded rear frame rail rot on my 78 malibu 2 dr. Repair is underway, I have the area exposed and the replacement piece showed up today. The problem is it falls about 10-12 inches short of covering the bad area. See pic. What are my options? Is there a secondary "rear frame rail" piece I can buy (this would be preferred) ?

You get new ones or you still looking for a set of used?I have a pair off a 81’ Monte my nephew has me trying to sell. One side needs around the mount beefed up but they’re better than what your showing.I’ll have to see if they go up that far

Did you read the post or look at the pics? I have a new one sitting here but it's too short. Is there a longer one available or do I have to fab a section?

I don’t think so. I added to my message. Have to look and see how far up the ones I have are cut. I may not be to far from you depending on how down east you are.

You may have to make a template and make it.
I am very close to NH. Are you familiar with Wakefield NH? If you can send me a pic I can probably tell by looking. I would like to use the piece I bought, just need the piece ahead of it as well.

Damnnnnnnnn!

Thats quite… indeed the crack lol. The rear rails do go first usually though lmao.

You could cut the section of frame out and add cold steel bar there.

Not sure also, but you could try and see if Conrad still would make a frame rail for ya. Might have to pay a pretty penny but his work is worth it 😎👌

This was the by the frame on my Bonneville at the front.

However, I got lucky with my G Body rear rails as they have been undercoated, which helps quite alot with the salt here in Ontario.

The front though had a spot missed from the undercoating, next to the steering box of all places 🤔😭😭😭 And yeah as you can see the metal cracked pretty bad.

We cut out the bad metal and used a steel bar, I think it was 1/4 thick? But as you can see, my body man welded it and made it look factory GM.
