Wondering what everyone has done, if anything besides original/stock speakers, in the back of their wagons in the stock location(above wheelwells if so equipped). The area seems pretty shallow to fit much and the factory speakers are "skinny" to fit that area it seems. Going from zero speakers to speakers back there will be an improvement and for me it's a must they fit the stock location. So I'm guessing my options are limited but maybe there is a basic new 4x10 out there that fits, worst case scenario. I do have some stock speakers without any idea if they work or how bad/good they might sound.

Paul,
I have noticed over the years that not all wagons were equipped with the rear 4x10 spkrs. over the wheelhouses. I suppose it could open up the option of using 6x9's with your own spkr grilles. However, you gotta make sure the depth is right. If the speakers are too deep they'll hit the upper wheelhouses.

Ditto issue on mine.

My wagon was a radio delete car and had aftermarket 4x10's put in. The 40 year old audiovox speakers were totally blown and have been unable to get replacements to fit. The replacement new speakers are too thick and hit the inner fenders. I think I need about 1-1.5" spacer.

Speakers that were in the wagon are on the left and replacement style ones on the right.

My wagon didn't come with rear speakers, the panels I have lined up to replace them, are setup for factory speakers which I wanted to add anyway, when removing some I've noticed how little room there seems to be. Figured some others have encountered this and maybe there is some type of solution, I don't need an award winning sound system but would like to optimize whatever I can to fit in the stock location.

It looks like most 4x10's have 2.4-2.75" thickness

These claim 1.75" mount depth so its better but I am not sure if its enough. Drawing shows 1.9"

Please buy them and be my guinea pig 🙂

Paul,
It might be easier and less hassle to utilize the method that Mark indicates ^ above and how your extra panels have the speakers fitted in the cubbies.

Good ole cruchfield had some more photos

Just going off what was in my wagon, these look like they SHOULD be thin enough.

My stock panels have dry rot issues, the best replacements I found have factory speakers plus I want it to appear factory and have the optional locking security doors to add to the cubbies. All part of the plan. What Mark has above looks great, just doesn't fit my goals/vision.

I might be willing to be the guinea pig although that price gives me pause for concern. Rather not resort to a BFH to the wheelwell to fit something 😀.
