I just bought a 8.5 Grand National rear end for $650 it has the casting number 3TP. I believe it has 3.42 gears in it. I was wondering if there is a big difference between the 3.42 gears and the 3.73 gears..... And if there is a difference between conventional posi and limited slip posi??????

As for the rearend gear ratio i can't help you cuz i am debating on either 3:42's from a GN or 3:73's from a 442 both 8.5 rearends except the 442 is open and the GN is a posi but both would need a rebuild... As for the posi it's the same as a limited slip and congrats on picking up a 8.5 GN rearend for 650, sounds like a good deal! Looks like it came from a GN..

I was told the rearend came out of a 86 Grand National that was stolen and later wrecked. The previous owner bought the car from a salvage yard thinking they would give him a rebuilt title but they didn't so he was forced to part it out.
