Thought I would share my engine build here. This is the second time I have built a motor for this car, I had intentions of putting my 406 in here but was able to sell it and couldn't pass it up! So I took the vortec 355 out of the car and have planned for a new cam and a 2800 rpm stall. I had a xe268 and now am stepping up to a xe274.. Here's what has been done to my car for those who don't know.. (I also bought a new transmission from a local builder builds some good stuff) http://www.doctorspeedstransmissions.com/

355 vortec heads, Eagles bottom end kit, xe274 cam, Performer RPM intake, custom quadrajet (can't wait to try it out), 2800 stall, 3.73s built TH-350.Exhaust wise is no catalytic converter, shorty headers with 2 1/2 pipe to flowmasters than 3 inch from muffler back.. this is without listing out all the particulars else where in the car... So now is time for the pics!

Here's my first shipment of parts from summit!!

Getting ready to tear down and send to machine shop, it always had a small piston slap, and now I'm going to fix it finally!

Re: Rebuilding my vortec 355

did you not consider a roller cam?...for the money it's a cheap hp upgrade....

Re: Rebuilding my vortec 355

I did, I sold all my roller stuff to my grandpa though, I had the roller rocker arms for vortec heads, the roller lifters and a xr276 cam. I bought it all for 160 cause the guy sold his motor.. I got a deal I would say but about 6 months ago I had plans to buy another project so I just got rid of my stuff, now I wish I wouldn't have because I always worry about the flat tappet, but for right now I'm fine without going roller. I'm looking for another project car (preferably a 3rd gen trans am) to start a LSx build..

Re: Rebuilding my vortec 355

That engine bay and suspension sure looks like new...and I like how your dog looks to be guarding that engine... 😀

Re: Rebuilding my vortec 355

Thanks I always like to keep my stuff clean, it did get dirty there for a while though! Just trying to get it cleaned up again do some touch ups and get ready for paint.. And as for the dog, the car is at my buddys, my garage is too full this time to attempt it there the dog was seriously catching beetles in the air and eating them.. she is strange haha.

Re: Rebuilding my vortec 355

is that a Nova Concours sitting beside your car?....they make great circle track cars... 😀

Re: Rebuilding my vortec 355

Why yes it is. I thought about buying it. Clean clean car Grandma fresh interior! And the converter is my 2800 rpm. If your talking brand wise I believe it is a transmission specialties.

Re: Rebuilding my vortec 355

Lookin' good man!
The engine in front of the bug almost looks like it's getting ready to go into the bug..especially with the engine lid off...
