the filter housing itself is plastic... especially with age and exposure to the elements it gets brittle and can crack. i cracked one myself on a 460 on an old motorhome, while i was trying to remove a fuel line. it just kinda disintigrated. just get something made of metal. would you use a vacuumn hose as a fuel line?

Hah i didn't know the housing was plastic, they painted it chrome..how cheap. Yeah it's only on this car temporarily, i'll replace it with a metal canister type next summer. Good thing is if it does let lose i've got it positioned where it wouldn't burst into flames.

it's plastic?, I thought they were only glass ones. I might be wrong then on the one you have. These are the type that I'm talking about..

No, my bad. I misread. I was thinking he meant one of the snowmobile type plastic ones. I missed the "replaceable filter" part of his message 😀

Do NOT use those cheap gas filters on a pressure line, ONLY on a suction line. That way if it breaks, you don't get a gasoline shower. As for the 3 fitting fuel pump, do NOT simply plug the return line, as it will insidiously flood the carb. (drove me CRAZY!) Rather, plump it into the tank line with a "T" so it feeds the excess gas to the incoming supply.

I did some research and i guess if you plug the return line an internal press. regulator stops working and floods the carb. You know i think i might have had this problem once before and never knew because i plugged the return not knowing any better 😛

Yup, screwed me all to Hell too. I was just trying to get the thing going and all I had was a 3 line pump. So what the Hell I just plugged it off. DAMN! Plugs would foul, clean them and she ran great, then slowly run crappy and plugs would foul. Rebuilt the carb endlessly, same thing. Then I read that the 3 line pump provided the correct fuel pressure for the application, PLUS some more to return the extra gas to the tank. The reason being that you then had a recirculating supply of fresh cool fuel and that prevented vapor lock, especially on AC equipped cars. You don't usually see the 3 lines on a non-AC car. Plug it, and that pressure has to go somewhere, and that is why she floods ever so slowly. Welcome to the club!
