Recommendation for tool set?

I recommend Stanley tools. Cheap, but very good! Stanley also owns Mac and now Craftsman. Biggest tool company in the world. They also own more brands too, just not sure witch ones.

They used to make the Husky line for Home Dumpo but pretty sure HD dropped them for a cheaper priced company. Stanley also owns Proto and Blackhawk tools. Years ago my wife bought me a new 41" top and bottom set from HD. The older red boxes. They were made in the same factory that pumped out MAC boxes in Smith Falls Canada. I found that out when I tried to purchase the second side box. The factory also made boxes for Beach Tool in Canada.

I'd say if you want to good stuff hit the yard sales, fleamarkets, swap meets, estates sales & pick up the older American made tools. Might have to deal with some older "sub-standard" import tools mixed in but worth it to get the good stuff.

I've had a 230ish piece craftsman ive had for a few years. Suitcase style. Enough to do what I need $120 and below on Amazon.

Son and I did a 400 mile road trip a couple of weekends ago and hit every pawn and sporting goods place. Not to mention a couple of killer dives to eat at

The best deal you can get is a whole set off Craigslist or FB marketplace, including box. Usually these come from a guy that's hard up for cash, or decided being a mechanic isn't for him and just wants out. I've seen them consistently for $2500-3500 & it would easily cost you 10k to replace everything with new, like name tools. I know it's a lot to swallow, but buy once, cry once....
