I was out in the GP and after parking it for a few hours I was going to go pick up a new sticker for the licence plate on my Jeep but the GP wouldn't start, it had no juice and tuned over real slow over so I poped the trunk and checked the cap which was reading 12.26 volts. Got my multimeter out along with my remote starting wires. While trying to turn it over with remote the multimeter reading dropped to a low 11 and then into the 10's. So I contemplated calling CAA and getting it flatbeded to my son's place where my Jeep is parked and I'd use that and get the sticker tomorrow. After about 20 minutes I tried to start the GP again and it fired right up, shut it down and fired it up again. Alternator is charging perfectly and there is no indication the battery is low and drawing alot of current. Never had this problem before and I willing to bet the Red Top is the problem

I'v never been impressed with the reds. I usually go yellow or blue. I bought an Advance AGM the last time- $40 cheaper.

I have not heard of those, do you have a link for the Advance AGM?.... I tried looking it up but I keep getting Advance Auto Parts and they sell the Autocraft and Carquest brands

That's it- Autocraft. I meant Advance Autoparts.... couldn't remember their brand.

I've always been too cheap to buy an Optima battery. I usually buy the cheap Walmart batteries for most of my cars and get 2-3 years out of them. They almost always seem to fail within their warranty period which is 1-3 years depending on which one you buy. So I've gotten a few free replacements from Walmart.

My 2004 Camry is the only car I have with a higher-end battery in it. And that's only because it is my winter car and it sleeps outside all year, so I've got a big 850 CCA Napa Legend in it.

I have my battery in the trunk so that is why I use an AGM. My Red Top was bought from a private individual 2 years ago but it was new. I have the winter to bring it back to life and if that doesn't work then I'll check out the Autocraft. I guess I'll have to find an battery analyzer....

I had a Red Top years ago that was manufactured before they moved the plant to Mexico and that battery still worked after I melted the negative side terminal by a short. It didn't even have to be recharged after that screw up. I gave it to a guy with a very low budget race car and he was still using it the last time I checked.

I guess that we've all had our own experiences with certain products..

I know that I've had a few Optima Red Top batteries over the years and have had good luck with all of them. The current one that I have in my Regal has been installed for 7-8 years and still works fine. Although, its connected to the battery tender for 6 months of the year- ha.

I've had 2 Optima batteries... one that came with a car I bought and one I got from Optima because I won a race they were sponsoring... actually I've had 6 Optima batteries because both went bad twice before I gave up on Optima batteries... not before I nearly burned my garage down trying to charge one with a regular charger.

If you put a battery in the trunk, there is value to using an AGM, but if its still under the hood, Walmart all the way.

For AGM I would go Bosch before Optima.

XS in stereo. Plus . . . they are cute! Of course, I do have $340 of batteries in my trunk though. Never mind, this was REALLY dumb! But, they are so cute . . . and they look REALLY important sitting back there too.

I used one of them in my GP for a couple of summers, they start the car good but when camping and the system is playing all that good music would drain the battery in the second summer....
