Guys, doing a frame-off on my '78 monte. Trying to keep cost to a minimum. I'll be redoing the brakes, lines, and the s10 spindle conversion too. Thoughts on cleaning up original arms w new bushings vs the tubular route? Think that'll save about $1,500... Just going to be a spirited street car. Any thoughts/experience appreciated.

s10 spindles are the same as g body spindles, you mean the blazer zq8 spindles? I rebuilt my front suspension and while it was allot better. I did find out now that since I dropped it I made bumpsteer worse! so now i'm back on redoing with adjustable upper a arms and tubular lowers from SPC. There is other options like from UMI, Ridetech etc etc... those arms are more moolah but correct the stock inadequate issues from the stock arms that seem to get worse when you alter the stock height. you can buy cheapo tubular a arms but I think those are just for looks...

im in the same boat as you, I just ordered a master bushing kit from energy suspension and im going to redo my stock stuff ,some day I might go tubular but I want to spend money elsewhere on my car I also ordered ball joints and plan on replacing all the steering components tighting up all that is going to make it drive much better

i was in the same boat changing all my bushings ball joints and whatnot
upper control arm bushings were going to be about 50 bucks for both sides
checked out speedway motors and they had tubular uppers for 42 a piece
so i went that route

For a street car I would just do the uppers. If nothing else just for the geometry. I would also go with some lowering springs and blistens.
But if money allows, well,,, Id probably go all out($1.500 or more) just to be done with it.

The speedway products you like? There is a buy on YouTube with a g body who used them. Rear control arms as well. Checked them out last night, looked solid and the price was good... Did you replace the springs as well? I'm putting 15x8 rally's on , 255 or 275 back, 225 in front(bfg ta's)... Thinking 1" drop all around... Let me know, thanks

it is currently being changed out now but they look good and approved for imca i believe

Awdblazer- let us know how those speedways work out. As soon as the snow subsides here in chgo, gonna be starting on the 81 cutlass i just picked up this wk. Right now on a really small budget as far as suspension - was plannin the stock replacement route also for the time being, but of i can get a decent tubular upper, even if it only lasts a yr, would be worth it

will do
so far i am 100 in for the tubular control arms and about 200 for my centre link and idler arm (both moog) they are expensive in canada
and then the rest of the suspension and steering components came with the car!!!

So has anyone actually replaced the bushings in their original a arms and put in new ball joints, etc vs. going the tubular route? I have all that stuff on my chevelle and it's great, but this monte is going to be a street cruiser and I'm really trying to save where I can... I'm going to lower the springs an inch... Just trying to hear an actual case so I can save some money and know I'll have a tight enough front end to feel good. Thanks
