Looking for advise on the best option to secure my 86 T-Type. I am buying the car to drive across the US and bring home to Australia. I am paranoid about it getting stolen while I am travelling.

All advise will be greatly appreciated.

I'd buy a 8 mm socket and pull the negative terminal once you reach your stops. Grandfather came from 50's Brooklyn. He ALWAYS pulled the coil wire off his 65 Bonneville. Plus park it in a well lit or tight parallel parking spot. Chances are you wount have any issues. Most car theft is theft of opportunity. Running car outside a gas pump. Or keys left in plain sight.

I would think if you mounted a little 12v battery in the trunk ( like a lawnmower batt ) and wired the car alarm to that as a stand alone system. Park the car and pull the neg terminal bolt off, and toss the removable steering wheel in the trunk.

Like above, 95% of theft is opportunity. If there is no steering wheel its going to be hard to drive even if they could get it started. You can keep adding layers like "booting " your own car if you like. Or take a wheel off it. LOL

Since the car has not been stolen yet why do you think the odds of it being stolen will increase after you buy it? I think the US has a lower per capita auto theft rates than Australia has.

while we don't have dingos in the states, you could buy a pitbull to act as your guard dog.
but seriously, the above suggestions are a good start. be aware of where your parking it. you want to slow down the thief if possible. the longer it takes, the more nervous and unsuccessful the thief will be.
but if someone really wants it, all they have to do is tow it.

Try to avoid staying at cheap motels if you're stopping for sleep. If someone wants it bad enough they'll find a way. But with you traveling you probably won't stay anywhere long enough for thieves to scope it out. Keep it in a storage place if the car has to sit before transportation.

Not sure , I'm taking it they strap her down in a shipping container I guess? I'm sure a reputable exporting company would carry insurance and maintain secure warehouse. Do they offer extended protection. And going around the world on a boat....sometimes things happen. Then who gets a check?

I'm sure he's all set with the shipping company but I think he's asking about keeping it safe driving it cross country until he gets to the shipping place.
