I find it fascinating all the odd ball combos in the late 70's. Having been around Pilot line mid 60's Chevrolets I can say that a lot off odd stuff that was supposed to be destroyed ended up sneaking out so anything is possible.When I was a kid my dad bought an engine and transmission from a 78 or 79 turbo Regal. The transmission was a T50. The guy he bought it from claimed he special ordered the car but his wife didn't like driving it in the snow so he swapped in a N/A 231 / auto.
I posted about that here on this site many years ago and was told no such thing ever existed.

I am pretty sure there was a 78 4-speed with a 6 cylinder but I don't know how many were made
