So my egr valve has a vacuum leak I've been having symptoms of a vacuum leak low idle stumbling shutting off at a stop and a found a few small ones spraying lines with some starting fluid. I replaced all the lines I found it helped a bit but still had the same symptoms minus shutting off. So I started spraying around again and as I got to the egr valve I sprayed it and up went my idle pretty good leak so I replaced the lines to it with no luck seems the leak is at the valve. A new one is $84 and as I'm just running the stuck 305 for the time being I don't want to spend $84 towards a engine that I will only run for about 2 more months. Will I be fine with just using a block off plate were the egr valve bolts to the intake and capping all vacuum lines/ports associated with it. This is a 78 so the only emission parts on this is the egr valve and cat. It doesn't have a ccc carb or smog /air pump or air injection pipes.

That's what I did with my old 305. I removed the EGR valve and made a block off plate for it.
Just make sure the local authorities will not be looking for it. Chances are you'll be fine.

Nice thanks do i need to remove anything else?

Probably just cap off the vacuum line going to it, and maybe the vacuum sensor in the thermostat housing...or remove it and screw a plug into it. .

when you remove the egr valve you'll need to retard your timing a degree or 2 or use premium gas. The egr cools the combustion chamber allowing you to advance the timing. Without it the engine will knock
