Yes there are two bulbs, 194 iirc. You should be able to replace the bulbs without removing the plaque.

Has 4 plastic posts holding it on. One on each end, 2 offset in the middle with one coming off the top and bottom of the plaque.
This pic shows three from behind, 4th is blocked by plastic still in place.
These will be blocked by the plastic climate ducting in the dash which is why you couldn't get to them through the glovebox.

If you cant reach them through the glove box, how do you remove the speed nuts/plaque??

I'm watching, cause I'd like to know as well.

You have two choices based on how adventurous and/or risk adverse you are:

1) you can slowly, with even and increasing pressure, pull straight outwards on the plaque and *hope* that the press on fasteners scrape their way off without breaking the plastic studs. However, there IS the very real risk that one or more of them do break off, and given the ever advancing age of these cars, I'd say you're more likely to break one than not.

2) you can remove the dashpad from the car, and once off, you can remove the small piece of blocking ductwork and work all 4 fasteners off from behind. Combination of pushing, pulling, and needle nose pliers does it.

GM put them on the dashpad along with other parts before installing the assembly in cars on the line, never was intended to be a replaceable part with the dash in the car.

That is precisely why I left mine in place when I wanted to black out my woodgrain.

It has a series of the pushon/speed/capture nut type things on the back side that are pushed/screwed on plastic studs, said studs passing through holes in the dash pad itself, plus the harness plug

Edit, b. pics coming tonight...

Well, I'm trying to replace my Limited's plaque because it's cracked. I drop the glove compartment and feel the first of 3 things. No, you can't see them so it's a feel of what I believe are the two bulbs that light from behind. Can't get my fat fingers beyond the a/c ducts. The first feel thing is one of the push-on locking clips then the 2 bulbs. I'm afraid of breaking the plaque and would like someone who successfully removed and replaced this nice but pia this pia. Tnx
