Any options if I was to use a Qjet to 2-barrel adapter?
Like here: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Quadrajet ... er,71.html

Could I use the 231's carb or another 2 barrel? Is the one on the '78 231 a dualjet?
I am not looking to make power, I just want the wagon drivable/reliable until I decide on the re-powering options down the road.

You probably could just go to a junkyard and pull a post 79 2bbl intake off a G body with a Buick V6. In my local yards, G bodies with Buick V6s are the most common. (It's hard to find ones with SBCs now). Use the more modern 2bbl intake on the 4.1L with the old 78 Dualjet, which probably should be rebuilt with good E10 proof parts. That would be about the cheapest way to go to just get the Jeep running again.

Years ago when I still had my 231 V6, I installed a 4.1 4bbl intake and Qjet on it and didn't really improve power, so I would not expect too much of a power loss with using a 2bbl on the 4.1. Since you are planning to use the 4.1 as a hold over until you decide for a better engine. If you ever do sell the 4.1 motor, be sure to try to sell it to the GN guys. They like to hop up 4.1s with their GN turbo systems and probably get you the best price.

That is a computer controlled carb. Go to the wrecker and pull a Qjet off a late 70's sbc 305 car or truck. It has the same outlet as that carb. It might be a bit rich as is. Clean it inside and out and do a rebuild. The primary jets will be marked with a number. I would go down one or probably two numbers lower. It might be good enough as is especially if you plan on headers.

If that is a 231 give it a Qjet, performer intake or stock 4 bbl intake, HEI distributor. I seen a Regal with a 231 run 11.80's N/A in the 1/4 mile. I kind of wish my Regal had a 231 in it. Good gas mileage and power.

A buddy reminded me that several years ago I purchased a few carbs, all supposedly rebuilt, so I went out in the garage and located them.

Below is the pic of the carbs

These are the numbers and info (from a web search) from those carbs

1980 PONTIAC 301 140HP
80 Chevy Buick Pontiac
R4-M4ME

(was the only carb in a rebuilt box when purchased)

78 Pontiac 301 Q jet

Based on the information, I am thinking that the 17080272 (top right carb) could be a possible candidate for replacing the 252's carb. I am confident that carb was indeed rebuilt, although I am unsure if it was rebuilt for ethanol/e-10 fuel.

Any reasons why I should consider one of the other or none of the carbs?

I think the 272 should work okay. Like stated above, maybe a bit rich but should be pretty close.

Should I be able to run the current intake on the 252? Will I need to make tweaks?
I am confused related to emissions connections, as I have never really had to deal with them in the past.
I do not have an emissions requirement, but should I incorporate the original '78 231 setup or replicate what would have been on the 252?
I understand that for many years and motors the emissions equip and routing is important to the proper running of the motor.
For simplicity sake, I would want to remove it all, but not at the expense of the motor running properly.
Although running rich typically prevents vehicles from passing emissions, so I would think it would render the emissions on this 252 problematic.

I was going to ask you if you would sell the top right one to put on my Regal. Do you have emission testing in your area?

That's the 17080272 that I am discussing installing on the 252, so probably not unless I find a more ideal carb for the 252.
But, I will definitely let you know if I decide to part with it.

Fuel line needs modified. Will the front inlet cause a fitment issue?
