I purchased a ring&pinion set, from a member here on GBodyForum, and I am not going to be using them now. I am trying to identify what series carrier they are for  I never asked the member I purchased them from because I just didn't think of it 😳

There are numbers stamped on the side 14283 GM75-410 F8

I already know it is a 4.10 ratio gear set for a 7.5" 10 bolt GM rear end  I just need to know what series carrier they are made to fit

Whats the difference between the series II and series III carrier ring gears :?: How do I identify this in the future :?:

So are you saying you can't buy 4.10 gears for a series II carrier :?: This is the same information I came up with in my google search. There has to be a physical difference in the ring gear

you can buy 4.10 gears cut to fit a 2 series or you can get a spacer to fit an OEM 4.10 gear to fit a 2 series but why would you. There is no advantage a 2 series carrier has over a 3 series carrier that I know of...

oh, I'm not saying I would rather have a series II carrier. I am just trying to learn what the actual difference is between the two setups
I would say it's safe to say, that somebody with a factory GBody 7.5" rear end wanting to put a good gear in it. would rather not change the carrier to a series III. That seems like it would be a fairly common reason to be installing a lower gear in a series II carrier rear end setup

They sell the lower gears for a series II carrier so I want to be certain that the set I have is for a series III carrier, so I don't screw somebody over when I sell them

If it was a series 2 ring and pinion you would know it because the ring gear would be almost 2in thick. Series 3 gear would be thin like 1 or so. Deffiently very noticable.

That's what I was looking for 😀

the 2.19 would have the thinnest crown gear for the 2 series carrier with the 3.08 having the thickest crown gear for that carrier.......the 3.23 crown would be the thinnest crown on the 3 series with the 4.56 crown being the thickest

and if you just look at the numbers of teeth marked on the gears that will tell you which series they install on
