Roadkill goes TV

The thing im worried about is even though it is a joint venture, discovery now owns the controlling interest and if you read down they have the right to buy up 100% of the interest which means they would have total control over the shows. TEN has the opportunity to buy in at "fair market value" once this thing gets going. Idk maybe they made their money and are now bailing the shows to the big networks... If the shops start to change (background, cars, additional helpers) we will really get a big hint if its fake. Roadkill has stayed true for years now so if big changes hit im out

I'm not a fan of either Discovery Communications or The Enthusiast Network. Back when I still took magazines, TEN ran the ones I wanted to read like Camaro Performers, GM High Tech Performance and Popular Hot Rodding into the ground. Discovery, what can you say. I can't stand to watch anything on The Learning Channel. In the late 80's/early 90's that channel was awesome. I hardly ever watch anything on Discovery anymore. It's all reality TV. Velocity, a Discovery Communications network, managed to run Wheeler Dealers into the ground. I'm sorry. There is no Wheeler Dealers without Ed China.

I'm not a big Road Kill guy but I don't think Discovery being involved portends well for it.

Roadkill and Hot Rod Garage are the only ones I can stand to watch. All the posturing on the others makes me vomit. I guess some people live that way, but not my circle of contacts.

Meh. It is already over produced as it is.

Iron Resurrection, Kindigit Designs, and several others shows on tv show TONS of fabrication. There are roughly 20-30 shows on tv right now and that's more than we've ever had access to. I watch almost all of them, but some do show more clowning around than fab/installation. They HAVE to be like this though. Why? How many times can you show a big block build or an LS swap? You have all of this stuff on tv + people showing how to do things on youtube....the sell becomes the people that do the work...not the work itself.

I watched a RK extra where DF was talking about it, and the way he said what he said really made it seem like he'd just bail if they tried to turn it into Fast and Loud type buffoonery, I imagine the rest of the MT crew (Tony, Lucky, Mike, etc) would as well. I do hope the suits see Roadkill for what it is, just two dudes messing with cars. No script, just an idea and some failure. That's all it has been and all it needs to be. Plus, as GP403 said, DF as been in the buisiness for over 20 years, he's got to have some power. Plus, it's his show (and Mikes, not sure if it's like a 50/50 thing, or whatever) I think he was involved in the decision to merge, at least a little.

How? It's the same it's always been. They've always had sponsors. YouTube was their first sponsor, then came dickies, Jegs, Dodge (which was really only organized events and gave them a free charger that was gonna get crushed anyway, not like companies haven't done that to car people before). Yes the production value is better, but the show's gotten more of a fanbase, and therefore more funding since the first few episodes.

they've always had background and car changes, it's a car show. HRG on the other hand, they have had at least 2 shops I know of. One was the OG hotrod building, and the other is their new building they got like 2 years ago. They've always had a film crew as well, if you count those as helpers.

I read the other day that Roadkill is partnering with the velocity network. Idk how many of my fellow gbody members tune into Roadkill on motor trend on demand or on youtube but they have always been about doing things their way, and not letting big TV networks drama up their shows. What do you guys think? In my opinion I kind of see it as the end of a good thing, they were independent and put out really good stuff and now I think that will be taken over and some guy in an office that drives a Prius will be telling them what to do on the show and throwing in a bunch of fake drama. As soon as that happens ill be throwing in the towel and getting rid of my MTOD subscription and chalk it up to another fake show like Gas Monkey Garage crap
Wont happen. Dave and mike both mentioned how they like their freedom and wont let some douchebag in an office who has never turned wrench tell them how to do THEIR show. Id you have watched one of the recent roadkill extras dave explains the big roadkill family tree. They wont sell out and throw away everything they have worked for.
