You should be able to just put it back in and seat it by carefully tapping it in. Don't hit it real hard. You could put some locktite on it first. You might consider sending that carb out to a Rochester specialist to have it professionally rebuilt.

I knew there was another issue- good work. Texas82GP is absolutely correct. It is a press fit and should tap right in. It does not normally get sealer of any kind. The reason for the vent is so that when the engine is shut off and it heat soaks, the fuel can actually boil and the fumes need to go somewhere. Years ago it just vented to atmosphere as did the gas tank. Now the canister absorbs the fumes and hold on to them until the next time the engine operates and can burn them up. If you can't find an original nipple, some regular 3/8" steel fuel line will work. Just flare the end or use a small hose clamp to retain the hose.

I looked online and looks like the nipple was 1/4" does that sound right? I can't find the original nipple, I'm gonna look at a u pull it for one, but I'm gonna go to lowes and see if I can find a copper fitting that will fit.

1/4" doesn't sound right to me. Contact a fellow named Mark. He specializes in quadrajets so he may well have the nipple you need. I know that isn't a quadrajet on your car but it is similarly constructed and is similar to work on. Phone: 210-908-7823. Email: [email protected]

I had him do a performance build on a quadrajet for me. Unfortunately my car isn't ready to put it on and test it so I can't give a review of how it runs yet but dealing with him was a pleasure and when I took the carb out of the box and inspected it I liked what I saw. He has a facebook page. Check it out. If you don't have facebook, that's o.k. Neither do I. You can still look at his facebook page online. His company name is Quadrajet Power. I didn't have a core so he provided one. I think he has a lot of cores and parts so I think he can help you. He strikes me as being very knowledgeable on Rochester carbs and as being detail oriented. I don't think a copper fitting is the way you want to go. Fix that thing right. you will be happy you did. I hope this helps.

Don't use copper. If you can't pirate one, they are out there. This one is 3/8" and $1.99 at Carbs Unlimited.
