Hey Guys,

Guess my build thread isn't locked up.

YAY.

Well I am picking things back up here, as soon as we thaw out here in the great white north.

Lots to do.

Drove the car about twice last season, couldn't get the carb (Quick fuel 600 Slayer) dialled in right. My engine builder, Graham, from Canadian Cylinder Head and I noticed some flat spots and hesitation in the car and the conclusion that we came to is I undercarbed the motor. Irony in that is after reading SOOOO much on how many folks over carb their motors I went to great lengths to make sure I didnt make the same mistake. HAHAHAHAH

Graham has recommended two carbs for the car:

1) Qjet Rochester Stage 2 (JET35002) 750CFM

2) Edelbrock 1806 Thunder Series, 650 CFM

Any thoughts or opinions gents?

After I change the carb and oil and tune it up I still need to finish off the interior and replace one of the headlights that has condensation in it. Was thinking of putting yellow headlights in so, might look cool and keep the old school vibe.

My vote is for a q-jet custom tuned for your specific application by one of the builders like Quadrajet Power (member here), SMI, Mountain Man, etc.
 
I appreciate the recommend, that is the direction I am leaning.

You're welcome. It's what I did, based on quite a bit of reading here. I didn't have a core, my builder (Quadrajet Power) provided it. Full disclosure, I haven't gotten my build going yet.

Welcome back, by the way. I've enjoyed this thread. You have a very nice car.
 
That's a good looking Malibu! I would lean toward the q jet as well.
 
I'm also in favor of the Q-jet. I just rebuilt and installed one on my car. So far, so good...I like it.

Glad to see you back Matt! I too suffer from that dreaded hesitation, but my builder (me with info gathered from various sources, mostly Pops) is considering swapping out the jets in my edelbrock carb to lean it out a little. That and put a kickdown cable on the transmission. But those are future plans for after I get the 85 Cutty in my door yard and running. For now, if i don't mash the pedal, it's fine. If I ease into it, it accelerates, coughs, give it more pedal and it wakes up. Going to swap plugs again when I get a chance, see what the old ones look like and go from there. My guess is number 7 and 8 will be dirty, mid plugs mild and front plugs clean, as they have been in the past....

We'd like to read about some current events. Hoping that you did not get stalled, sold it and moved on....
