RPO Code List--Sticky please? 2020-09-30

Please scan that puppy into the database!

Good evening. I have been searching around without any luck to decode one last item on the trunk service parts identification decal for a 1987 Oldsmobile 442. On the same line as the VIN is a six digit code. What does this stand for? I was wondering if it was the dealer code, or maybe the order number? Any help would be appreciated. On this decal the number reads...075401 as an example. Thank you!

Order numbers were normally alpha-numeric. Most of the time if you saw an order number, it was on the invoice and/or on the window sticker.

Do not know what this 6 digit number is for. Even the 87 CSM doesn't delve into that. Or even show it.

I have a “vehicle ordering guide” that the original owner of my car gave me when I bought it. It lists all the RPO codes and how much they cost. I can post pictures of all the pages if anyones interested.

The last part of it, R47 is the 2-door, or 47 body style. I just thought of something about that other number. It COULD be...speculation only here...it COULD be the job sequence line number. Which has absolutely nothing to do with the VIN. It was primarily used by Fisher Body to identify the body structure parts to the car and ensure that body order was tracked before the VIN was affixed to the car. It used to be called a broadcast number or something of that sort. In the old days, the Fisher number was assigned and placed on the body tag and on the paper IBM card that sometimes was placed in the car, but later on, the tags (if applicable) didn't have the numbers on them, like in the late 80s. Perhaps it has something to do with that. But not all SPIDs had them. I think they only did that in the Pontiac plant. But not positive.

Again, pure speculation. Someone knows. It's got to line up with SOMETHING. They didn't put rando numbers on SPIDs.

It was fun looking through this and decoding the trunk sticker. Hope it helps someone

New member, just obtained a 1985 GP that has mismatched seats (two different cloth styles/seat styles (not sure what it came with). Your vehicle ordering guide helped a bunch but...no seat trim/material/style page (identified by RPO code?). Do you possibly have a page 6 in your info that contains seat trim? Many thanks for posting the vehicle order guide.
