I just saw a 3.73 rear axle at the junkyard for a Chevy S10 pick-up. I was wondering if this could go on a G-Body or not. Thanks.

Gears & carrier will fit a G body housing but the S10 housing will not work. They are too narrow & have no cast in upper trailing arm mounts. The S10's are parallel leaf spring vehicles. The brakes I believe are the same. Keep your eyes peeled, some 4X4 S10's came factory with 4.11 rear gears.

Will the 8.5 ring and pinion fit in the 7.5 g-body housing?

That's good to know. I forgot the S10's had leaf springs. I just saw the thing sitting there on the ground, and out of curiosity, I looked at the tag which read "3.73 S-10". I remembered that ratio is sought after and just wanted to make sure. Oh well.

If the price is right, buy it:pull the carrier and gears, axles and trash the housing.

The axles are no good to him, they are too short. the G bodies are about 52 inches backing plate to backing plate & the S10's are 48 inches.you are right about the spline count though. I think the newer S10's were the ones that were different.
