Hi everybody, New guy here. I'm working on an '85 Monte Super Sport and I put a Saginaw 525 3-bolt box in. The problem I have is that my stock intermediate shaft has a flat in the splined section. The Saginaw does not. it's a 3/4 shaft with splines 360 degrees. What would be the best way to hook this up?
Jeep Cherokee shaft........ Flat spot?
Chevy Astro shaft..........Flat spot?
or use a Dorman rag joint...... anyone have a part number?
Since these replacement rag joints are around $50- $90, I'd rather upgrade for around the same money ( jeep-astro shaft).
I guess I could always hit the Saginaw shaft with a grinder and make my own flat spot..

Anyone care to comment?

3 bolt.... lighter, 6.5 turns lock to lock
4 bolt.... heavier, 7.25 turns lock to lock
Still not seeing why you would recommend the 4 bolt. Other than the 4 bolt having a flat on the input shaft,it seems inferior.

Oh, By the way. This is going in my 85 Monte Carlo SS, 5.3 LC9 swap with twin T70 turbochargers, air to water intercooled, Rosseler TH400 with a Fox mustang 8.8 swap on E85. It rides on 15x3's up front and sees the strip. Its a 900 hp butt kicker that doesn't see many corners.

If that's the case I wouldn't worry about the steering shaft upgrade at all lol
