Eh. Republican, democrat... it really doesn't matter.
We're beyond the point of real change. All you're going to see from either candidate is short-term, minor alterations without taking any of the future into account. Of course, that's all people really see... for instance, the economy was good under Clinton. What nobody fails to see is that it was an entirely temporary situation, and the steps taken to make the economy better would only last so long before collapsing. Then when it goes kerplunk under Bush, everyone points the finger at him for being an awful president and ruining the economy.
My opinion? Yes, Bush is an awful president. But no more awful than Clinton... or Bush Senior. Or Reagan or Carter.
Remember Ross Perot? He was going to raise taxes. He came straight out and said that the economy wasn't going to be great, but that we had to suffer a little now so that it didn't go straight to hell. Of course, people didn't like that. They didn't like that he was honest (or, as the popular media like to say, "crazy") and wanted to take the necessary steps to secure a good future... they want a good future NOW, two decades later be damned.
This is exactly why you're not going to see either of these guys really stepping up and making the unpopular choices. Because they want us to be on their side. They want that majority of the American public -- who, sadly, really have no interest in anything except the here-and-now -- to get behind them. It is for this reason that we will see no real change under either of them.
Me? I think I'm voting for John Vanbiesbrouck again. Because I think a retired NHL goalie would do a better job than either of 'em.
