Does anyone have a part number for a cheap sbc w/headers alt bracket. I've been finding all kinds of expansive ones, but remember seeing a cheaper version somewhere back when I didn't need it. (we all know how that goes). I'm planning on useing most of my factory brackets, and accessorys (xcept the smog pump of course) off my 4.3 on a 74 350 I just recently picked up, from what I understand everything should pretty much bolt up. Or have I been misinformed???

Well, the headers have nothing to do with the alternator bracket on a SBC built since the 1969 model year on cars, and after 1972 on light trucks. Are you trying to run serpentine or V belt brackets, and if so, what year engine are they coming off of? If it is a 4.3, the brackets I presume will bolt on to the front of a 350 with the 3 accessory holes drilled and tapped in the heads. I do know that there are slight variations by year to the bracket sets, as I did mine with a set that I believe was used from 1984-85. What alternator are you trying to use? 10si? Or is it the later unit with a serpentine belt drive used from 1986 on up?

If you are running a 10si or 12si Delco Alternator, you should only need the spacer sleeve that bolts to the alternator to hold it in place for the pivot bolt which bolts to the head, and the adjusting bracket that bolts to the intake manifold and water pump.

actually, I'm not exactly sure what model the alt is. But it is the factory 87 one with the serp. I plan on still running my power steering, and ac also(just because it still works great!),they, I believe both run the same vbelt, but I put a 383 in a 87 Caprice that origanally had a centerbolt 305 and I remember having problems because the factory bracket bolted to the front of the exhaust manifold. the header only has a very thin flange. Its just been a couple of years so I can't remember exactly what I did. What I'm trying to do is round up everything I need for this before I start working on it. Unfortanatly I gotta drive the car everyday, so I'm trying to minimize down time. My other car (90 supercharged cougar) isn't quite dependable anymore, lets just say some of the block is in the oil pan the rest is all over the ground somewhere. lol

alright, now I feel pretty stupid. Its not the alt bracket I'm going to have problems with, it's the a/c one. Sorry to run you around, now that its light enough outside to see what I'm talking about it was the a/c bracket that bolts to the manifold. Now do you know what I'm talking about?

Well, if it is what I am thinking, you just need a longer bolt and a spacer cut from a piece of steel pipe. I have a sleeve that came with my headers along with the right bolt and it works no problem.

That works. I just didn't know if I had to get something. I like your way, for the first time in a couple weeks I've figured out something cheap and easy. haha thanks.

not to hijack this post or anything, but i am having problems with power steering bracket. i pulled one off a older 305 or 350, but it will not bolt up to the newer vortec block, what should i do?

get a serpentine belt system from any v6 or v8 chevy motor.

What kinda serp system are you talking about??? My 87 4.3 has one serp and two v belts (one of which just runs the smog pump, and will not be used anyway), anyhow, if there is a factory serp system that I can use to replace all that, what kinda car/should I look at to grab it off of? Fortanatly I live in a place where older cars and trucks are very eazy to come by in salvage yards.

i do not want to run a serpentine set up. i just want a simple bracket to mount the pump.
