Your heads are not the problem. You have a good street motor there. But Iwould swap out the cam.
Your leaving a lotof power on the table with them thumpers.
you would be better off with a XE262 or XE268 or 1 of there magnum series.

I think the XE262 and XE268 are good cams, but to me they are pretty small for big performance, I do like them for towing in 400's. Plus they are flat tappets and WOPMONSTA has already pick out a hydraulic roller to run, I do agree that the Thumper cams leave a little power on the table though. I run a XE274 in my 400 SBC K1500 daily driver and it has awesome power, response, towing, and street manners. Going in a lighter vehicle and staying hydraulic roller I would look at something in the 230* @ .050 range if it's going to be more of a "hotter" street car than strip. I personally run alot more "radical" stuff that most wouldn't call streetable, but to me it definitely is streetable, it's for sure not daily driver material. Call cam manufacturers and talk with them about your combo and they will help you pick one to meet your needs.

yeah manfor now I'm just going to go with my combination but I plan on switching to dart pro1 heads in a solid roller cam
All motor - no spray - 28-9-15 slicks at the track, 4:30 rear t-400 w/ 4000 stall, runs 11.20's.

I have pretty much the same set up but I have smaller cam in my 85 monte full car not gutted with 373 gears and it runs 13s everyone says not to bore the 400 out like that or it will run hot but I haven't had a problem

thanks for the info I'm pretty sure Mines is going to be in the 12 second range with a slick and a 390 rear endand as far as boring the 400 out to those dimensions its not a problem my grandad had a 412 and ran it for years no problemwith the overheating problem it's not the motors it's the ownerswho forget to drill steam holes in the head when they swap them out or leave the radiator clogged
