I sell stuff on Craigslist and sometimes Racing Junk and I know they are scammers from the very first contact which usually starts off with "Is this still for sale?" but they are never specific about what they want to buy.
Typically if you respond back instantly you don't get a response until the next day which usually has the " I need your info so I can send a check and I will have my shipping company pick it up etc".
Today I had one wanting to buy my 1150 quickfuel carb and they text me back within minutes with the same send me your info line and I responded with "NO SCAMMERS" and had a quick response back of "nope" so then I put "what cubic inch engine is this going on?" and the response to that was "one to give to my engineer that is why i want to buy it from you" I guess my question did not translate very well in his English to whatever language dictionary.

Ditto 565 - they are out there to take your money and its amazing what people can be talked into. If it feels wrong, smells fishy, the flags should fly. It's hard to trust anything but cold hard cash anymore. Money Orders - Cashers Checks can be fake. Checks - enough said. Paypal is great but money can be pulled back. I always tell the person product has been sent and I still wait a day or two watching my account. Do - not give your bank account for them to transfer money. When your working with the internet you will need to accept payment other than cash, be careful. When I sold my 70 GS the gentleman wanted to do a transfer (mind you this was north of $20,000) I spoke with my bank and we set up an account which the money was deposited. Once there and confirmed good the money was transferred to my account and the set up account was canceled. If flags fly on a deal meet them @ the police station. If your buying the same can apply, especially when lots of cash is involved - and take someone with you. I like Smith & Wesson. Be safe !!

I had a similar experience. I was selling some wheels and the asked if the rims were available I said yes. The person on the other line said they were local. I said that's fine we can meet up at a busy parking lot near me no problem.

The reply back was that they were very busy and would send me a check for 100 more than I was asking to hold and once the check cleared we can arrange pick up.

I said I'm in no rush to sell snd let me know when they could pick up because it was pick up and cash only. I also asked where locally they were and guess what, no reply.

I hate scammers. It sucks because this kind of stuff causes a mistrust between people.

I have had good luck with people in this forum and there has only been once that I did not send out the item cause I had a bad feeling about the person. He never did get back to me tell me the parts never showed up so that confirms he's scammer and no longer a member here. I tend to buy off kijiji which is mostly local and I pay when I pick up the part and even then some people don't properly describe the part, like a flywheeel that came out of an 87 Camaro, he forgot to tell me that there was a BB in the Camaro.

I just did a Craigslist deal with a kid that needed a roll around tool box. He came to the house and gave me $500 in cash deposit. He came back the next day with a trailer and his brother, Paid me the other $1000 and it let them load it up. All and all a smooth transaction. That being said I had my 9mm tucked in the back of my waist band the whole time. I don't trust anybody anymore.

I sell stuff on Craigslist all the time. And usually get the scam bots too they only text and never call. I have a copy saved to my phone. Every time I get one I just shoot this message and never get another reply.
I've even tricked a few people with it. Laugh out when I get the the message "STOP"

VZW MSG: Charges are applied for every message. $0.50 National-$1.50 International. Text STOP at any time.
Current balance due: $1.50
