serp. belt system for olds motors?

Interestingly, the new issue of Hot Rod points out that the RWD 4.3 Olds V6 diesel had a serpentine system that would work. Not really sure how many of them were around in the first place, nor how many are still out there. The FWD version won't work.

Why Olds didn't use this on all their V8s as well when they first came out with it is beyond me... The article says Olds has the distinction of being the first GM marque to use a serpentine belt system, and the last to use a carburetor and a V-belt system. :wtf:

For a chevy motor, a setup off a 3rd gen f-body works quite well. In my new hotrod magazine, they had a question about serpentine setups in the pitstop section. There was an aftermarket company that made one, and it cost 1K plus IIRC.

I found the article. Its in the 01/14 issue of Hotrod magazine in the pitstop section.

That's why using the V6 Olds Diesel water pump with the Chevy set up works. This has been discussed many times on the Olds forums but the problem is that they were so rare. Personally, I have never seen one in the yard but I just read on Classic Olds that there was a complete NOS V6 crate engine on e bay recently.

That's just it. That article makes it sound like there were millions of these out there but they just aren't. If this was a viable option then you wouldn't have us Olds guys adapting the SBC systems to work.

the water pump is not a issue I found several . I wish I would have kept all the v6 diesel accessories off the cars I had . But could have sworn they were v belt . Its been almost 30 years LOL
