Okay I finally got my new heads on that have all the required accessory bolt holes. I want to get a GM serpentine belt system. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-12497698/
This is the style I was originally looking at, but I am led to believe they had a few similar systems throughout the 90's that I might be able to find in a salvage yard. If I'm going to spend $900 on a stock one...I think I might save and grab a March Performance one, but I was looking to keep the factory "pancake" style compressor.
1) Does anyone know if this system is better than the older ones?
2) Differences between other systems
3) Have one or know where I can get one?

I got one for my Monte off of a 1995 siverado from my local salvage yard. I got everything ..pulleys, brackets pwr steering pump, water pump (reverse rotation) alt. and ac compressor all for $50.00 .

Bought mine off Ebay for $80. Blasted and powder coated everything. I believe its for a mid '90's S-10 but from what I can tell, the same system was used on the 4.3L, 305 and 350 engines. At least for the trucks. The F-body's may have been slightly different.

I wasn't about to pay $2000 for a March Serpentine setup when the stock style works just fine. Just had to make a couple of brackets to bolt it to the Olds block and head patterns.

Thanks. That alternator took some modifying to fit. But it's leaps and bounds better than the CS130D alternator that fits these brackets originally. That thing is a nightmare to work on or rebuild compared to the CS144.

For those of you with this setup, what length belt are you running? I realize mine won't be the same due to the deck height of the Olds engine but it would at least give me a ballpark idea.

I'm going to replace the belts on my GMC Sierra and then use the long one as a test belt on my Olds. I would think it should be long enough as it's 93" for the longest belt.

I see some nice looking conversions here.

Don't pay big bucks for a serpentine system. You can find pretty much everything you will ever need to convert your engine in a wrecking yard these days. If you have a Chevy engine, a lot of the 90's stuff will bolt right on. If not you might have to get a bit creative, but it is still very doable, and well worth the effort. I hate v-belts.

Mine Is off a 92 FireBird Paid $60 for it at a yard here in Phx. Had It blasted. Bought all new accessories for it.
Like it so much better than the old V-Belt setup.
Got the fans off it too.

I have the same set-up and it came with the engine I bought out of a 95 Suburban. I have a noise in the front of the engine and it took me 10 seconds to remove the belt to see if one of the components was the cause..and it took me less than 30 seconds to put the belt back on...much easier than the v belts
