OK so I wanna put some new shocks in the cutlass. I'm going for all suspension this year and leave the motor for another year. I just don't have the money for the motor this year for what i really wanna build it too. I just bought some f41 sway bars and i am ordering some lowering springs for it in a week. It's an all street car. I might take it down the strip but it's only a street car.

I'm trying to figure out what kind of shocks to get. I see guys yous gas, air, nitro, adjustable, drag. what would work good with my setup? Brands and part numbers would help, thanks guys!

I have the Bilsteins AK series which are linear travel shocks. I have the shorter ones since my car is lowered and it's no fun if the rear springs fall out

BIL-AK1043 Stock length front
BIL-AK1044 Stock length rear
BIL-AK1051 Short length front
BIL-AK1052 Short length rear

pontiacgp, do you know how much shorter these are than the stock length? Also, where did you get them from? Can't find them at very many places online...

I just installed Viking double adjustable shocks and springs on the front. I put the rear shocks on a while back. I got from UMI. They have lowering kits that use these shocks. I'm pleased with these shocks and springs I have them set for a cushy ride and they work great. I will be going to the track soon and see how they preform at the drag settings.

I get mine at APC auto parts. they sponsor our race car but you can order them at most places

I got my part number for the rear mixed with the short and long...or Bilstein changed their part numbers, I'm sure last year the 104 meant stock dimensions and 105 was the short version, odd number for the front and even number for the rear.. :wtf:

AK-1043 - short front
Compression: 8.45"
Extension: 13.36"
Valving: Linear

AK1051 - stock front
Compression: 9.05"
Extension: 14.09"
Valving: Linear

AK1044 - stock rear
Compression: 13.03"
Extension: 20.47"
Valving: Linear

AK1052 - short rear
Compression: 11.28"
Extension: 17.20"
Valving: Linear

Thanks a lot, great info. How much is your car lowered? Trying to decide if I'll need these shorter shocks too when I install lowering springs...

yah i guess I am wondering if i need short front shocks or not. only lowering about and inch.

the front of my car is 2.5" lowered, 2" from the 5660 springs I cut 1/2 coil off and another 1/2" from the tall lower ball joint. The back is about the same. I have a 67 A body rear so the springs sit differently and I used the spring from a 1983 Phoenix that I cut to match the ride height of the front. I used the F body isolator for the open ended spring on top. This is what the car looks like...
