I've heard good things about those Costco lights on other forums. I zoomed in but didn't see a Lumens spec.

Thanks, that's the info I was looking for. So, by my math, the Amazon lights I listed at 14,400lm are 8 footers. Comparing them to the 4000-5000lm Costco/Walmart 4 footers (X2) they would be somewhere between equal to 50% brighter by the foot, no? Looks like they're about half price too.

BTW, fluorescent lights are getting tougher to find. LEDs seem to be the new standard now.

The LEDs blow the fluorescents out of the water. They are twice as bright

When I replaced mine, I put one led tube in each fixture that used to have two florescents and I can't really tell the difference in light.

So if your starting with led, you can space a little farther apart then florescents.

Also pay attention when you buy them, lots are sold as daylight or soft white. I prefer the daylight bulbs in the garage. They also seem a bit brighter than soft white bulbs.

You are using the conversion bulbs?

Ever dropped a fluorescent tube? Or tracked down a replacement ballast? Flickering lights give me a headache. And, like the Harbor Freight thread I was just reading, balance your expectations. Factor in the ladder you'll need to replace any lighting option in that huge space you're building.

For now, run outlets on the rafters connected to switches at the doors. I'd zone them based on working area vs. storage. And if you will have overhead doors, make that a zone you can turn on when the doors are down in the winter.

And now onto the big ramble. I insulated my garage and covered the walls in pegboard. I hang up car parts and tools so I can find stuff when I need it. I also like the $89 chrome pantry racks on casters offered at Costco. I box up the bits I'll need later and write on the box what's in it. Both approaches let me change up the shop organization when needed.

I have existing fixtures where I like them at. I didn't want to take the fixtures down and re-wired.

I used these halco bulbs.

I found a place local that sold them single, but paid the same per bulb price.

You take the ballast out and wire the 120v to the existing tombstone in the fixture.
