Now that I have my new Cutlass ('83), I looked into it more. I have "antique" car insurance now on the car. Full coverage for a declared amount. I have the car insured for more than I paid, so if someone steals it, I'll actually make money off of it.

Really...? Hmmmm...If you lived closer, I'd be willing to 'make you some money'...

read my siggy .... I couldn't find anyone to put theft coverage on that car and it didn't have an alarm (yet). One month to the day ... bastards come for my neighbor's Malibu ... luckily he had put a kill switch in ... so sure they tore his car up but it never left ... his dogs almost got the lil b*st*rd too. One month to the day after that ... they came back for my 81. Slimjimmed the door so there was no damage thankfully ... he got an earful of alarm that time and damn near got stabbed/beaten with a Mag Light (had I just been a bit quicker). So "yes" worry about theft. BTW, I live in an excessively low crime rate area .... in an almost 3 month period I know of 7 different A/G bodies that were "tamperred" with. Lucky me, I seemed to be the only one that they actually managed to take the car. Car never found/charges never filed. Suspect was a minor (with priors) but there was a lack of evidence to ever charge.

Yes unfortunately you do have to worry about your car getting stolen.
I've had break in's and have had many questionable people eye my cars and wanted me to sell it to them at their price... needless to say I'm sure their kids were hungry and they were going to pay me with Crystal Meth money.

For some reason the gangbangers in St. Louis LOVE Cutlasses. I have many stories of when I lived in Southern Illinois of these people running out of restaurants, getting out of their cars and running across intersections and people chasing me down from across the parking lot just to come up to me and say "SELL IT!" jeaah boi! I think Nelly has something to do with it....

I've learned my lesson and don't even keep some of my cars at my house, I only keep one there and it's the daily driver that I wouldn't care if it was stolen. They will need a steering wheel, and have to figure out how to start and shift my car... I have some other licensed theft deterrents as well.

lol I was in Overland at the QT by 270. This dude taps on my window "yo, how much you sell this car to me for?". I look around the car puzzled and reply back "Do you see a for sale sign?" :😛ointing at all the windows:: Guy calls me some racist terms and starts acting all tough .... he was a fast runner though. He must have moved 50 yards before I even had the door all the way open ... I wasn't about to try and run after him. I'm a big guy and he was probably all of 120 pounds soaking wet.

I had a customer stop by one day looking into audio equipment and she had a GBody with this type of steel box column lock. It incased majority of the column. I have never seen one before but I wouldn't think it would be too hard to make. I have a Club on mine, car theft is slim to none in this town but you can never be too carefull.

I live near Flint and work in Flint township (a ton of businesses in the area, nothing like downtown Flint). I've had a couple guys ask me if I wanted to sell my '81... for what reason I have no clue because it's a beater. 1 or 2 summers after my truck was stolen (got it back a few days later), someone broke into the Malibu. Because of the methods I already had in place (didn't have an alarm in yet, didn't really think I'd need one :lol🙂, they didn't get it, but broke the column & stole the radio :? That weekend I got a new column and wired in an alarm where they wouldn't think to look for it. Eventually I plan to wire up a latching relay (in the thread HurstOlds linked), where you have to hit one of the interior buttons/switches that are already on the car and have the key on in order for it to give the rest of the car power. If they don't know what this switch is, they won't be able to start it.

I would love to pick up one of those Code Alarm or DEI systems that have the vibraiting keychain for notification that the car is being tamperd with.

I've got one of these canadian tire remote switches hooked up.

http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/produ ... earch=true

They are awesome for the price: basically a main battery disconnect relay that has a remote switch that goes on your keychain like what most cars have for door locks now. I picked it up for 28 bucks i guess the price went up though

Don't know if this sophisticated Canadian technology has made it to the states yet

I had one guy try to get in my car when I had the t-tops off, I gunned it and his head hit the b-pillar... fvckin POS.
Carbondale, IL is filled with racists and they aren't white...
