Thinking about redoing the exhaust on my Elco this winter, with as few bends in the pipe as possible. I figure side exit pipes closer to the middle of the car would suffice. Let me see what you have so I get some ideas of whether it looks good or not

I would want exhaust that goes over the axle regardless anything that is going to exit out the side before the rear tire is going to be way louder than it needs to be.

I'd dump them off but the best looking side pipes if you're "bent" on them would be at a 45 right before the rear tires

I had side exhaust on my 442 and it would comes in the car in traffic. My wife wouldn't ride in the car. But I have no emission controls on the car.

Side exhaust "in the middle of the car" will scrape on every speed bump and will eventually crush.

In front of the Rear tire or behind the Front tire won't scrape but only "in front of the rear tire" won't fill the cabin full of fumes.

NASCAR cars don't have to go over speed bumps. 70's side pipes went under the frame right behind the front tire to avoid scraping.

By "in the middle of the car" I meant by either one of the tires lol. Thanks tho bro. I'm thinking in front of the rear tire is the best.

Did you mean that only behind the rear tire won't fill the car with fumes?

I'm with 565bbchevy on this one, I would dump them out the side just behind the rear tire. I ran turn downs just before the axle for years and would get fumes, and definitely dust and such. My brother n law has side exits on his 68 pro street Camaro that exit in front of the rear tire...noise doesn't bother any of us, but sitting in traffic you get a good amount of headache inducing fumes.
When my cutlass exhaust gets reinstalled I will have them dump out the side behind the rear tire.
Just my .02.
