Lima,Oh
ANYBODY thinking of buying a mini starter from skip white performance DON'T I bought a sbc high torque 3hp mini starter $69 I believe back in October got my 355 in my 67 Impala all my wiring was chewed up so I re-wired only the things I needed through a switch board (starter, distributor, alt). Got my wiring done it got cold and I live in ohio so November it's cold time didn't get around to working on my car so February came we had like 2 warm days well I got all my accessories on wired up put the starter on connected the positive battery cable to the stud the solenoid engages but my ground wires haven't been connected yet call skip white they sent me new solenoid it took 3 weeks to get here. So it's March warm weather I put the solenoid on some time last week so yesterday the 30th I go to put the starter back on and finally start my car and guess what the starter gear doesn't engage just spins. Call skip white performance told them what happened he said jump the wire well I tried that it just spins he said send it back and I'll get a new one yea no I told him I'll just order one from summit racing Atleast they don't sell cheap China made crap just disappointed had my hopes up to start the car that was my father's who past away and going cheap on one thing set me back smh just because it looks good doesn't mean it is lesson learned

I have the same one on my car, and have had it since January, not one problem. I'm going to order their SBC distributor considering MSD is crap now, and Chevrolet Performance is made in China as well, it doesn't matter where i order from now a days. I had Jegs starter on my car before that lasted about 2 years, and comparing the 2 I think the quality is about the same.

I have ordered several things from Skip White, But you must remember you get what you pay for, and if something was wrong (other than being cheap) they were pretty good about fixing the issue. i have fixed and replaced so many cheap china made parts its rediculous. Now I have been saving up and getting nothing but quality parts that are made here in the USA or at least by a reputable chinaman.

Dont do it, I just replaced a cheap *ss distributor this weekend, it failed for no reason and was and pro-billet msd clone, if it says procomp, tsp, or nothing on it Stay Far FAR AWAY. by the way it took me 3 times to learn that lesson.

MSD isn't all crap...you have to spend money to get the quality of distributors built in the US. MSD did come out with the street fire junk to tap into the market who look at the price instead of the quality

Idk different people different results I might of got a bad one who knows that was the first time I EVER ordered anything that wasnt from summit racing I don't really order from jegs but things happen after the solenoid problem then the gear not engaging it ruined my day completely investing $3500+ of my money on the motor alone and trying to save a little change and got burned it took me a year to build the motor working and saving every pay check then when the day comes to see what I worked hard for not happen killed my vibe completely things happen just wanted to share my experience best of luck to everybody and their projects

Let me get this straight...

You bought a starter, and it was bad.
The company offers to replace it, you decline, and instead trash them on the internet? :?

I have the same starter and I intend to use it on my big block. I know quite a few cheap bastards that have used skip white distributors, starters, rotating assemblies, etc for years with no issues.

Agreed, sounds like Skip White tried to do you right... the part is the problem. You should put the part number and maker up.

I use Powermaster stock style HD starters. Never had one that looked crappy or didn't perform as advertised.
