hey fellas I have an issue that I need your vast knowledge on. I ran across a build for a small block 400 build using a 400 block to achieve 454cid  , now the bore was 4.250 and i think the stroke was 4.00 but I'm not sure. Futhermore is this really even achieveable even with an aftermarket block? I'm hoping this is a bridge that one of you has crossed before your opinons and knowledge is greatly welcomed and appreciated.

yeah it was a world block i saw i even contacted world about the block but i still dont quite get how its acheiving 454. Can a 400 even be punched that far?

Those aftermarket blocks they use are casted completely different than a GM 400 block. They are much more beefy as far as cylinder wall thinknesses. A much better design than the GM 400 block as well.

In a paper back book, Hot Rod volume 9, Technical Library, page 18, is a article byTom Madigan, called At Large Building a 454 cubic inch small block. It had a stroke of 4 1/8 inches, and used a Chevrolet Bow Tie block (PN366287) and a Sonny Bryant B.R.E. fully counterweighted 4330M alloy billet crankshaft (used Mallory heavy "heavy metal" steel inserts and a standard full internal balance job.
