i have noticed some smoke out of the valve cover vents. its worse on the passenger side, i did have a chance the other day to remove the drivers side valve cover. it looked like the smoke was coming from the holes between the pushrods, from the block valley. any ideas as to what this might be? i'll have a chance to look in the passengers side this weekend.

Are you using a PCV valve?

engine is probably tired and you are burning a little oil and getting some blow-by

no, on the pcv

time for restore? has anyone ever tried that?

Do a leak down test to see if the engine is tired.

I am not sure how important it is on these engines to run a PCV valve, but I know on other cars it can cause problems like that. Are you using breathers on the valve covers?

yes i have breathers on both valve covers. i'll probably do a compression test this saturday

maybe i should do a before, use restore and then an after compression test.

You should really do a leak down test. You can not see what is exactly wrong with the engine with a compression test. Who knows, you may just need a head rebuild. You would not be able to tell with a compression test.

My stupid 3.8 does the same thing, but the olds 355 will fix that 8)
