Picking up an '85 Elco this weekend for my 14 year old son.

We will be building this thing together. He is my youngest so this is my last hurrah with the kids.

Motor and Drivetrain are in perfect working order including the CA Sniffer junk (SMOG). I have an LS motor, computer and transmission waiting for the day he learns how to be responsible with speed and get's better turning wrench.

We will be doing mostly body and interior work for now. Paint is not bad, but roll pans, chrome trim delete, Gaylord hard bed cover are a must have. He wants to pick the color. Interior is still stuck in 1985 so new carpet, headliner, stereo system and change from light blue to black will be more than enough for us by the time he is licensed.

Enough of my ranting. Pics to follow.

Very cool. I started my build with my son as well when he was 16. its nice to spend the time with them! although my son wasnt really as into it as I was LOL.

Sounds like a nice project, although as I get older I appreciate the original dated colors of our cars inside and out. The factory black interiors are cool but the colors you don't see anymore, blue's, beige's, green's, etc. stick out and in a good way. Maybe the color will grow on you and your son.

Believe me, I tried telling him to stay with the OEM colors, but I guess I should be glad he is in to classic American versus the newer Honda, Hyundai or whatever else they got on the road nowadays.

We still have a little over a year before he gets his permit. I am sure the arguing will commence once the car hits the garage. LoL

Welcome Ron!!! Looking forward to seeing your build!!

Welcome,

Cool to see that you're gonna be building it with your son!
It's rare to see kids interested in messing with cars these days.
