So just take a grinder and basically make room for it? I probably don't need step by step instructions, but it would be nice to see the process.I always just cut a notch just below the rear deck and mount the 6 x 9 directly to the underneath of the rear deck, the notch is hidden by the rear seat.
I also open up the hole to match the 6 x 9.
This way gives you clearance if you have bars going under your speakers.

I don't have any pictures from the rear seat area but the notch you need to cut is usually about 3/4"-1" deep and around 5"-6" long and you cut just below the rear deck.So just take a grinder and basically make room for it? Thanks. I suppose it would help to have the new speakers first, to help estimate how much cutting is required.I don't have any pictures from the rear seat area but the notch you need to cut is usually about 3/4"-1" deep and around 5"-6" long and you cut just below the rear deck.
You cut the notch based on the thickness of your 6 x 9, I did mine so the speaker slides into the notch and I only need 2 screws to secure it.
You are better off cutting the notch on the small side first then trim as needed to get the speaker to sit flush with the deck and depending on the speaker style you might have to trim for tweeter and midrange clearance if they are higher than the mounting surface but I do this any way and open up the whole area above the 6 x 9 since the factory opening is designed for the 4 x 10.Thanks. Mine didnt.I haven't looked in a minute but does the speaker hole have a bar across the middle? Gotta cut that out too?
