I haven't looked in a minute but does the speaker hole have a bar across the middle? Gotta cut that out too?

Mine did. I cut it out for clearance to the tweeter dome.

My Cutlass had a crossbar too. Maybe another feature to make Cutlasses top of the line G bodies?🙂

I always just cut a notch just below the rear deck and mount the 6 x 9 directly to the underneath of the rear deck, the notch is hidden by the rear seat.
I also open up the hole to match the 6 x 9.
This way gives you clearance if you have bars going under your speakers.
