So im going to buy a pair of 6x9 speakers to replace the 4x10. Do i really need to buy the adapters or can i just mount them straight through where the 4x10 was? Any amp installs under the seat or trunk. Also what kind of speaker wont hit the metal rod

I would opt for the adapters. Depending on which brand and configuration of the speaker cage, the extra height that the adapter adds to the package tray helps you clear the trunk torsion bars. That was my experience. It is also just a cleaner look IMO.
